Reverend Mathew (Mat) Brown is our pastor at Blackstone Baptist Church. Mat began his ministry with us on December 1, 2015.
Reverend Brown was born in Elizabethtown, North Carolina but, he moved with his family to Henrico County at the age of three. After graduating from Henrico High School, Mat earned his Bachelor’s degree from the Virginia Military Institute in 1985. In December of that year, he married his wife, Rebekah, and began his military service as a Helicopter Pilot in the United States Air Force. While stationed in Germany, Mat earned his Master of Human Relations degree from the University of Oklahoma. After being honorably discharged from the Air Force, Mat spent a short stint running his own business and during that time he felt the call to vocational ministry. In 1997, Mat became the pastor of his first church in Chase City, Virginia and later earned his Master of Divinity degree from the Baptist Theological Seminary at Richmond.
Mat and Rebekah have two adult children, Andrew (Elizabeth) and Aaron (Jennifer) and two grandchildren, Eli and Nora Jane. Mat enjoys hiking, camping, reading, watching sports and playing board games with his family.
